Travel incentives vary industry by industry, making them a complicated concept to navigate. However, as a brand rep with ThirdChannel, these incentives add value to every step of your journey–making it well worth the effort of understanding them! How do they work?

At ThirdChannel, we calculate travel incentives based on the straight-line distance from your home to your store location for a round trip. For instance, if the exact distance from your home to your store location that day is 8 miles, you'll be compensated for 16 miles of travel, regardless of the actual route you take (even if it's a bit longer due to alternate routes or traffic). Keep in mind, the farther you are from the store, the greater your incentive!

Remember, your travel incentive is based on the total mileage to and from the store, not the actual distance traveled.

IMPORTANT: If visiting the same location more than once on the same day, only one travel incentive will be paid for those visits.

For Example: 

Let's say your visit hourly rate is $15 and you complete a 3-hour visit, earning $45 for your time. The round-trip distance in a straight line from your home to the store is 42 miles, making your travel incentive $10. So, your total pay for the visit, including travel, is $55.

In the app, the per hour (/hr) Rate shows up as the total pay for the visit time plus the travel incentive divided by the number of hours. Due to this, your hourly rate will show up differently when the visit duration or travel incentive have changed.  The pictures below give an example of the difference.
 

• When your visit hourly rate is $10/hr, a 1 hour visit with no travel incentive will show $10/hr
• When your visit hourly rate is $10/hr, a 2 hour visit with a $2 travel incentive will show $11/hr ($20 for the visit time plus a $2 travel incentive divided by 2 hours equals $11/hr).

NOTE: Optimize your travel incentives by scheduling two visits to the same region if you already have to travel there. This way, you can leverage two travel incentives for a single journey. However, if scheduling 2 or more visits at the same location on the same day will only pay one travel incentive since no additional travel was needed.

Note: As a ThirdChannel Brand Rep, you are an independent contractor responsible for paying federal, state, and local taxes on the compensation paid to you. ThirdChannel will issue you a 1099 document at the end of each calendar year for reporting to tax authorities/the Internal Revenue Service.

Independent contractors may be eligible to deduct expenses incurred while performing duties for ThirdChannel (e.g., gas, mileage, tolls). Identify and track such business expenses for potential deductions when filing taxes.
